Birthday UNbash

It’s been two months around here, and I still wouldn’t even be pressurized into partially accepting that I am enjoying my stay around here. Life’s tough; and staying in Kolkata has underlined that fact. I have all the money that I want but the struggle never seizes. Struggle to get a decent breakfast, struggle to get to the office, struggle to get appointments and meet people, struggle to lay your hands onto the data that you want, struggle to make sense out of it, struggle to show it to your boss and on days struggle to actually find something concrete to do. I am not whining. Its an experience. You gotta enjoy while the good things last for you coz you never know when life might take a turn for the worse. Its like a sailboat. Make merry while the favourable winds last…!

Here’s something I really wanted to write about.

23rd of July….12:00 AM. A table is laid under the stars with a delicious 2 kg black forest cake. People gathered around…some you know and the others you don’t even know! Friends pull you out of your room…grab your phone and switch it off. You cut the cake and before u can even realize what’s happening you are smeared with it…so bad that you wouldn’t even recognize yourself if you were to look in a mirror. You’d think that the worst is over. But in come 10 people, pick all 85kgs of you up as though you were lighter than a feather. What follows is you being thrown up and down 24 times making you feel like a crazy ball by the end of it. And then starts the night long celebrations…loud music, great grub and lots of dancing/jumping around!

Awesome time na? That was last year…. Complete opposite of it happened this time. This 23rd was just another day except for my friends remembering me and calling me up and making me special and cared for. Out of sight is not always out of mind!! Thanks to all those who remembered and well to those who didn’t….you can start feeling miserable about it from NOW.

For the records, here’s how the 23rd went….Sleep late, get up early (primarily due to the phone calls), A lunch treat for my roommates (they remembered too), a ferry ride on the hooghly (pretty awesome …I’ll put up some pictures soon), movie at INOX (Pirates of the Caribbean) and finally rounding the day off with pizzas for dinner (Thank God for Dominoes). All in all…a sober, decent day! A big change..!!

I miss my hostel……but nothing lasts…does it?? Now’s not forever!!!
